Rostelecom pursues mobile ambitions by acquiring regional operators

Russian national telecom operator Rostelecom has increased its stake in regional operator Orenburg GSM from 51% to 100%, news agency RIA Novosti reported last week. The remaining 49% stake was sold for $4 million by Samara based operator SMARTS.

MSCI Russia Index integrates Rostelecom stock

Starting September 1, 2011, the MSCI Russia Index will integrate the stock of Rostelecom, Russia’s national telecom operator, with a weight of 3%, Russian business daily Vedomosti reported yesterday. Rostelecom was originally included in the index until its reorganization process started in 2009.

MegaFon acquisition of Web Plus confirmed

MegaFon, a major Russian mobile operator, has confirmed its acquisition of St. Petersburg Internet provider Web Plus last June, according to the company’s quarterly results. Megafon bought the loss making firm, which owns $4 million in debt, for $2.5 million.

Rostelecom connects Siberian cities to e-government

National telecom operator Rostelecom and Irkutsk city authorities signed an agreement last week for the deployment of Rostelecom’s e-government solutions in the city, TASS-Telecom reported citing company sources. Similar agreements have been signed earlier with municipal authorities in Siberian cities of Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk and Omsk.

SmartLabs secures Russian IPTV contract

London – SmartLabs, a leading Russian provider of digital TV solutions, has started to deploy a large-scale unified IPTV platform for Rostelecom service providers in all Russian Federation regions. Within the project, all separate IPTV platforms currently running in the regions will be replaced by the unified one based on a number of SmartLab products.
