VimpelCom last in the running for NTC acquisition

FAS, the Russian anti-monopoly authority, rejected the bids of MTS and MegaFon, two leading Russian mobile operators, to acquire New Telephone Company (NTC), a major mobile, fixed and IP telephony and internet operator based in Vladivostok. As a consequence, VimpelCom, another leading Russian operator, is the only bidder left in the running.

Russian court rules social network not responsible for user copyright violations

The Russian Supreme Arbitration Court settled the dispute between leading Russian television channel RTR and social network Vkontakte on the liability of the social network for the transfer and use of unlicensed content on the site. The court ruled that Vkontakte is not responsible for its users’ copyright violations.

Debate with state commission delays launch of LTE frequency conversion

Representatives of the mobile operators involved in the discussions with the State Radio Frequency Commission (SRFC), speaking under conditions of anonymity to Vedomosti, reported that the creation of the consortium is being delayed and the July 1 deadline for completing the investigations on frequency conversion is unlikely to be met.

The Russian Interior ministry announced that a criminal case has been opened against a 26 year-old Muscovite for having “replicated and disseminated” 18 copyrighted music recordings from his personal page on Vkontakte.ru.
