WiMax tenders announced as doubts appear on market perspectives

The Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) has announced on its website last week that it will conduct three tenders for licenses to provide fixed WiMAX services in the 3.4-3.45GHz and 3.5-3.55GHz frequency bands in 30 Russian regions.

MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator, intends to purchase Bashkortostan’s telecom operator Ufanet, Russian business daily Kommersant reports. In the fall of 2010 Megafon wanted to buy Ufanet but in the last moment changed decision because of the price of $170-$180 million.
