WiMax tenders announced as doubts appear on market perspectives

MegaFon aims to become “universal telecom operator,” acquires NetByNet

Leading Russian mobile operator MegaFon announced on June 10 that it has acquired NetByNet, a fixed broadband Internet, digital TV and IP telephony operator. MTS to buy Ufanet for $170-$180 million

MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator, intends to purchase Bashkortostan’s telecom operator Ufanet, Russian business daily Kommersant reports. In the fall of 2010 Megafon wanted to buy Ufanet but in the last moment changed decision because of the price of $170-$180 million.

Megafon to buy St. Petersburg’s Web Plus with $4 million debt

Megafon, a major Russian mobile operator, is considering purchasing St. Petersburg Internet provider Web Plus, Russian business daily Kommersant reports. The deal price has yet to be disclosed, but, according to experts, the price will be “symbolic”, since Web Plus is a loss-making firm with $4 million debt, the newspaper said. The seller is Telecominvest.

MTS to buy Tatarstan TV and radio company for $180 million

MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator, intends to purchase Republic of Tatarstan TV and Radio Company TVT (TRC TVT) for $180 million, Kommersant reports. TRC TVT, the largest cable TV operator in Tatarstan, is currently 100% owned by TAIF group. It provides services in 15 municipalities and covers over 650,000 households.

MTS buys broadband operator in Altai for $19.2 million

MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator, has acquired full ownership of Inteleca, an alternative operator providing broadband Internet and cable TV services in Barnaul and Biysk in the Altai region. The sale of the company came to $19.2 million, according to MTS.
