NTK launches new media company

The Russian cable operator National Telecommunications (NTK) is expected to announce today the formation of a new media company that will develop TV channels. According to Russian business daily Kommersant, it will be made up of two daughter companies named Novyi Vybor (New Choice) and Artmedia Group and initially include seven channels in its portfolio.

Russia goes for DVB-T2

Russia has decided to opt for the DVB-T2 standard for its digital terrestrial services and will now set up pilots in eight cities. Several local reports say the decision was made last week by a government commission chaired by Igor Shuvalov, the deputy PM.

SmartLabs secures Russian IPTV contract

London – SmartLabs, a leading Russian provider of digital TV solutions, has started to deploy a large-scale unified IPTV platform for Rostelecom service providers in all Russian Federation regions. Within the project, all separate IPTV platforms currently running in the regions will be replaced by the unified one based on a number of SmartLab products.

MTS launches mobile TV across Russia

London – MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator, has launched a commercial mobile TV service covering the entire country. Known simply as Mobile TV or MTS TV, it offers viewers eight Russian federal channels and over 100 channels from 17 countries and in 26 languages.
