Platforma HD ceases broadcasting

The Russian pre-pay DTH platform Platforma HD and its sister service Platforma DV ceased broadcasting on July 1. The company’s website gives no explanation as to why the closure took place.

ComNews.ru reported that Platforma HD’s subscriber base has been transferred to leading Russian DTH platform Tricolor TV. The latter’s audience, which amounts to some 10 million subscribers, will not increase significantly, however, with Platforma HD’s estimated 70,000 subscribers.

Tricolor’s ARPU reaches 600 rubles per year, or less than 14.5 euros, while that of NTV-Plus, another Russian popular DTH platform, reaches 7,200 rubles (over 175 euros).

Platforma HD launched in August 2008 on Eutelsat 9A satellite and, as its name suggests, carried only HD channels.
