Skolkovo cements ties with China on Putin’s fast track

Skolkovo, the state-sponsored innovation hub now nearing completion near Moscow, is considering opening a rep office in China, reports Seda Pumpyanskaya, Skolkovo’s Vice-president for International Relations and Communications and a participant in the most recent round of talks between the parties.

According to the Skolkovo envoy, the potential partners have made “substantial headway in charting a bilateral roadmap for cooperation in innovation.”

Upon completion of preparatory work begun a month ago in Moscow, Beijing and Skolkovo will set about launching joint projects in the biomed, alternative energy/energy saving, IT, and new material development sectors.

At this point, the key initial goal facilitated by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to China has been achieved. A strategic agreement was signed on June 5 between the Russian “innocity” and China’s Z-Park, a techno-park that is said to raise about 30% of that country’s overall investment in high tech.
