Earlier this month two international corporations signed agreements with Skolkovo, the international tech hub under completion on the outskirts of Moscow.
Royal Philips, the Dutch tech giant, signed off on the official opening of its first innovation center in Russia in the Skolkovo technopark.
This innovation center will focus on machine learning, artificial intelligence as well as computer and data science. The corporation’s global network also includes centers in Germany, the USA, India and China, in addition to the Netherlands.
“We are absolutely sure that a lot of fantastic innovation will come out of Russia,” said de Henk de Jong, chief of international markets at Royal Philips, who sees in Skolkovo “the heart of the innovations ecosystem in Russia.”
Meanwhile, the agreement with AEON, a privately owned investment group that has operations in Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, foresees the opening of four lab complexes at Skolkovo.
Over the past years Skolkovo has inked partnerships with many international corporations, including AstraZeneca, EDF, IBM, Intel, and Panasonic, to name just a few. However, the tech hub, which is still pending completion seven years after project launch and billions of dollars invested in it, has been criticized for failing to meet some of its state backers’ expectations.
