“Matrëshka,” the first electronic driverless bus in Russia, was revealed in late October in Skolkovo, the international tech hub under completion on the outskirts of Moscow. Designed to carry up to eight passengers, the bus was showcased at the annual international forum of innovative development, “Open Innovation.”
The bus is controlled by computers and equipped with self-learning software. There are specialized sensors and cameras on board which are able to observe the situation on the road in real-time. With a full battery, the bus can travel 80 miles at a maximum speed of 20 mph.
Under plans, the vehicle will be manufactured starting from 2017 at the Volgabus factory in the Vladimirsky region.
Another driverless bus was tested at Skolkovo by Volgabus earlier this year.
