Google celebrates Trans-Siberian Railway

Yesterday Google dedicated its daily Doodle to the 100th Anniversary of completion of the Trans-Siberian Railway, which has “helped link a nation with the world.”

Russia still depends on this railway to traverse nearly 9,300 kilometers from Moscow, Europe’s largest city, to Vladivostok, which neighbors China, Korea and Japan.

“In just seven days, the railway transports travelers and cargo from western Russia, across rocky tundra and frequently impassable countryside, all the way to the Pacific Ocean,” notes the US tech giant, which sees in the railway “a stalwart example of Russian engineering.”

Doodler Matt Cruickshank travelled the Trans-Siberian Railway in April 2015, which inspired him to bring the Doodle to life.

The Doodle also features Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings in C Major, Op. 48, II. Waltz” as performed by the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

Google users from as far as Colombia, Cuba, Japan, South Korea and most Western European countries, in addition to those from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, could enjoy the Doodle and its beautiful music.
