MTS enters broadband battlefield with HDSPA+ in Moscow

MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator, announced the successful test of a section of its DC-HSDPA 3G network in Moscow. Three times faster than conventional HSDPA networks, the DC-HSPDA features the simultaneous use of two carrier frequencies, providing transfer speeds of up to 42 Mbit/s to subscribers.

Commercial service of this new technology on the MTS network will begin in Moscow in April, 2011. Plans are to equip all MTS 3G base stations in Moscow by the end of 2011, thus providing telecommunication services within the stations.

“We were the first in Russia and the CIS to offer the innovative Dual Carrier HSDPA technology which under the same bandwidth (10 MHz) provides subscribers with download speeds comparable to LTE,” said MTS vice-president Andrey Ushatskiy to CNews.ru.
