LinguaLeo, a personal online service that helps people master foreign languages, has launched its service in Turkey with a localized web-version and a mobile app. This is the second market after Brazil in which the Russian startup has launched its service.
“Within the framework of our plans for global expansion we chose Turkey for a variety of reasons,” commented Lingualeo Head of PR. “Amongst the country’s population there is high usage of the internet and other mobile gadgets and the country has a well-developed internet-infrastructure.”
“Most importantly Turkey’s population is young and responding quickly to global trends. People today usually have little free time; therefore, we believe that LinguaLeo can easily become part of everyday life,” she added.
Russia and Brazil are among the top ten fastest growing markets for English-language learning. Turkey’s rate of growth is not among the top ten; however market size is comparable with Russia and behind Brazil.
The startup has also announced the appointment of Dmitry Stavisky as LinguaLeo’s CEO. An ex-Vice President of International at Evernote, Stavisky is also joining LinguaLeo’s Board of Directors. Before Evernote, he held various senior positions in US startups since the 1990s.

Company founder and former CEO Aynur Abdulnasirov will assume a new role as Chief Product Officer while remaining on the company’s board of directors as Chairman.
