Moscow-based free website builder uCoz launches in India

Earlier this month uCoz, the leading free website builder in Eastern Europe, became available to Indian users under the local domain uCoz.in.

“We strive to give our best response to the rapid growth of the Internet usage in the emerging markets, and a significant part of these demands are coming from India,” said Evgeny Kurt, uCoz’s CEO.

uCoz can be used to create different types of web projects such as blogs, forums, fan sites, company websites and online stores. Hindi will soon be added as an operating language to facilitate use of the complete CMS in India.

“We understand that we can make our services more convenient and closer to the users by providing versions in different languages and, therefore, building strong local communities,” Kurt added.

Founded in 2005 by a team of Ukrainian developers, uCoz offers, free of charge, 23 modules to build and host customized websites. Its platform, available in 16 languages, hosts around 1.2 million active websites. The Moscow-headquartered company received a strategic venture capital investment from DST in late 2007. The DST stake is now held by the Mail.ru Group, which spun off from DST in 2010.

Earlier this year, Yandex handed over its ‘Narod’ website hosting activities to the company.
