A certificate on the incorporation of a United Pirate Party of Europe was signed on September 4 in Luxemburg. Representatives of 14 piracy movements from Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway, France and Russia joined the party.
According to its manifesto, prepared back in July, the main focus of the newly created party will be fighting for transparency in the activities of public authorities and the reform of copyright laws in the European Union.
In addition, the “Pirates” are planning to present a united front in the upcoming elections to the European Parliament in 2014, which will increase their chances of getting more seats among the deputies.
Lola Voronina, the international coordinator of the Pirate Party of Russia hopes that membership in the European Organization will help Russian pirates obtain an official registration of the Pirate Party of Russia .
We should recall that the Pirate Party of Russia is simultaneously trying to legalize its status in the Russian Federation. On September 5, its representatives filed already a third application for registration with the Ministry of Justice of the RF. The last time the Ministry of Justice refused the applicants, making reference to the fact that the name of the party does not comply with current legislation.
While the representatives of the movement believe that in this way, the ministry is infringing on their right to unite and is depriving them of a chance to inflict a “balanced civilian response to the tightening of state controls over the Internet.”
