Tomsk to get new $17.5 million business incubator

Tomsk Control Systems and Radio Electronics University (TUSUR) has plans to commission by late 2011 – early 2012 at the latest the city’s new fully equipped $17.5 million technology business incubator, RIA Novosti reports.

According to TUSUR’s provost for innovation and international relations, Alexander Uvarov, of the total amount, the RF has provided $7.3 million and about $880,000 is expected from regional coffers. The university is kicking in some amount, he added, disclosing no details, though. He didn’t name any other source of funding, either.

The business incubator will reportedly also accommodate an Institute for Innovation. The incubator will have a capacity of hosting 30 projects and is expected to create 250 new jobs, Mr. Uvarov told RIA.

Specifically, residents will reportedly do R&D in nanotech, radio and telecom, smart power electronics, smart IT and control systems, information security, and broader innovation areas.

The future incubator is expected to set up 13-15 new innovative start-ups a year.
At the moment, there are 11 business incubators in the Tomsk region, including student’s and technology-focused, RIA reports.
