According to a study released by Russian telecom retailer Euroset last month, 2.6 million tablets were sold in the country in the first half of 2013, showing a whopping 239% year-to-year growth. Samsung managed to sell the most tablets, but Apple still made more money from the sale of these devices.
The total size of Russia’s tablet market in the first half of 2013 reached 33.1 billion rubles, or $1 billion, up 131% year-to-year, while the average price of a tablet decreased to 12,500 rubles (approximately $380).
Samsung has displaced Apple to become the market leader in terms of units sold. Samsung’s share increased to 25%, whereas Apple’s share declined from 34% to 19% year-to-year. However, the latter’s share in terms of revenue remains the largest — 34% compared to Samsung with 32%.
Android remains the most popular operating systems for tablets on the Russian market. In the first 6 months of 2013, tablets running Windows accounted for 0.2% of the market. It is worth noting, however, that Microsoft’s tablets were only officially introduced on the Russian market in April 2013.
