Petr Mitrichev, a Russian programmer with a clutch of major global IT competition wins already under his belt, came out on top earlier this week at Facebook’s 3rd annual Hacker Cup international programming contest, notching his second personal Cup win and making the competition’s first prize Russian-only for a third year running.
Mitrichev, a 28 year old Moscow State University graduate, received a $10,000 award along with this year’s coveted trophy.
Since 2000 the Russian programmer has become a serial title holder of the Hacker Cup as well as the winner of awards from the IOI, ICM ICPC, Google Code Jam and TopCoder Open competitions.
The 2013 final of Facebook’s annual “Hackathon” was held at company headquarters in Menlo Park, California, with 26 of the world’s best and brightest competing against each other over two hours of rigorous problem-solving hacking.
Last year’s Hacker Cup winner, Russian programmer Roman Andreev, won $5,000 for his efforts.
Russians have beaten challengers at other Facebook competitions as well. BoostMate, a Russian social graph solution developer, was one of the three Grand Prize winners at the Facebook Developer World HACK 2012 international event.
Facebook says that “hacking is core to how we build” and “we’re always hacking to find better ways to solve problems.”
