Russia to provide advanced telecom and Internet solutions to Bangladesh

4G, Internet access, and online services were among the topics discussed by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her meetings yesterday with top Russian officials.

“Russia is ready to share its knowledge, experience, and technologies with Bangladesh,” said Nikolai Nikiforov, Russia’s Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications. “In particular, we have gained a huge and positive experience in the field of electronic government – from electronic land register, to census, to e-learning, to utility billing.”

Nikiforov also cited ‘Multinet,’ a Russian company operating networks in a range of African and Asian countries, which already provides wireless broadband access in Dhaka, the Bangladeshi capital.

Last year, trade between the two countries amounted to more than $700 million, up 20% from 2011, according to Russian authorities.
