GNC-ALFA, a leading Armenian telco owned by the Russian national telecom operator Rostelecom, will enlarge its service offer and operate under its mother company’s brand.
Earlier this month the Armenian operator launched Rostelecom-branded landline telephony and broadband Internet sales, and is gearing up for retailing interactive TV services to private customers at a later date.
GNC-ALFA runs its own 2,500 km FOCL covering an estimated 80% of Armenia’s territory, and exchanges data with neighboring Georgia and Iran. Eleven Armenian cities have already tapped GNC’s point-to-point FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) solution, and by 2014 the company wants to embrace “practically all Armenian localities.”
This past February Rostelecom acquired a 75% minus one share stake in the Armenian company for $22.5 million.
