Navitel, the leading Russian publisher of navigation software, has reported that total sales in the navigation software market grew by 300% in 2010, according to RBC Daily, a Russian business daily.
On the hardware side, Russian makers of GPS navigators are also benefitting from the current strong market growth. One of the leading Russian makers of these devices, Explay, is enjoying almost 20% of the market share. Other leading national makers are TeXet with 15% of the market share, Prestigio with 12%, Garmin with 7.7%, Lexand with 6.1%, and Oysters with 4%.
Smartmarketing, a Russian consultancy specializing in mobile studies, has estimated that 1.2 million GPS navigators were sold in Russia in 2010, a two-fold increase from the previous year. Smartmarketing figures do not include sales of smartphones and other handests equipped with navigation software.
