Novosibirsk to create electronic cluster

The Novosibirsk region of Siberia will create its own electronic cluster, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported earlier this month. The planned facility will include significant production capacity for the manufacture of next gen electrical current sources based on a combination of supercapacitors and classical lithium-ion or other storage battery technologies.

The facility will also reportedly manufacture products for energy conservation systems, computers, and biomedicine.

Three companies operating under the umbrella of Russian Electronics (a holding which is part of government-owned technology corporation Rostekhnologii) will be tasked to set up the facility next to Akademgorodok, Novosibirsk’s most well known scientific hub.

The core of the future cluster will also include Novosibirsk State University and these “three regional companies with significant expertise in R&D and production,” according to the report. Details about the three companies  have not yet been specified.

The project owners estimate that construction of the $60 million facility will be completed within 30 months.
