Last week Elon Musk spoke remotely at a Russian state-sponsored education forum, spending 40 minutes answering questions from students. The tech celebrity said he received a personal invitation from President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
Among other speakers at the event were Steve Wozniak, on the international side, and a bevy of tech CEOs and high ranking officials on the domestic side.
“Cars will be totally self-driving and all transport on earth, from ships to airplanes, will be electric,” Musk told the audience, struggling with an unstable connection.
Musk also commented on geopolitics: “There should be more communication between Russia and the USA,” he stated.
Recently, Russian media reported that Tesla might be considering opening plants in Russia and neighboring Kazakhstan. This got several Russian governors over-excited. “Welcome to Udmurtia!”, wrote regional head Alexander Brechalov on his social media, adding that Musk could count on local tax breaks. Governor Andrei Vorobyov waxed lyrical about Moscow Region’s logistics, while Alexander Klychov from Oryol Region went as far as comparing Tesla to “a fearless conqueror of new heights.”
