Russia’s national telecom operator Rostelecom has acquired Solar Security, a major local tech player in the field of target monitoring and information security operational management. Rostelecom spent 1.5 billion rubles (roughly $23 million at the current exchange rate) for this acquisition, as announced last week.
As part of the deal, Rostelecom’s existing information security resources, as well as human resources, will become part of Solar Security, “which will allow creating a single cybersecurity competence center,” reads the press release. While developing its own products and services, this “national cybersecurity operator” will manage Rostelecom’s external security projects serving corporate and government sector.
“As market leader, we are responsible for putting Russian cybersecurity technology to a new level and developing new standards for information security services,” stated Igor Liapunov, CEO at Solar Security, who will also become Rostelecom’s vice president for information security.
