Russia’s top travel sites include both foreign and domestic sites

The Russian online market is hotter than ever with over 50% of surveyed shoppers indicating they book more travel online than offline, according to recent studies.

Historically, travel agents have been very popular for booking travel in Russia but the market has seen a major shift thanks to a number of new online options for booking travel in a more convenient and cost-effective way.  eMarketer compiled the top 10 travel sites in Russia ranked by their average monthly traffic. Russia’s top travel sites include both foreign and domestic sites. The top foreign travel sites in Russia include Booking.com and Trip Advisor.

The top domestic site in Russia is Tutu.ru. This site offers flight, train, and bus tickets. They also sell hotel and tour packages. Tutu was founded in 2003, and originally was a site you could use to see the timetables for trains. In 2005 the site expanded its train timetable to include long distance trains. In 2006 the site began to sell railway tickets, and the following year flight tickets. In 2009 the site expanded to include hotels.

In 2014 the site began to sell package tours. According to eMarketer, Tutu.ru has a monthly average of 17.9 million visits. Tutu.ru has a mobile app for iPhones and Androids. It also has a page on Vkontakte, Facebook, Odnoklassniki, and Instagram.
