Yesterday Google announced the launch of Android Pay in Russia, with the participation of 15 banks at start. This makes Russia the 11th country covered by Google’s tap-and-pay solution.
Thousands of organizations across the country already accept Android Pay, including Magnit, Perekrestok, Starbucks, KFC and Rosneft. Thus Russians may now fuel their car, buy groceries, or go to the cinema using Android Pay, provided that the outlet accepts contactless payments.
Android Pay can also be used to settle purchases via the apps of Afisha, OneTwoTrip, Rambler Kassa and Uber, with leading e-commerce players Ozon, Lamoda, Wildberries and others expected to follow soon.
Users no longer have to enter their payment details every time – they can pay with a single tap on the Android Pay button.
Payments for purchases via Android Pay can be made from Android smartphones version KitKat 4.4 and later, as well as from Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches, note Yandex.Money experts. This works for both offline payments and payments in mobile apps.
Competing services Apple Pay and Samsung Pay launched in Russia almost simultaneously in October 2016.
