Yesterday Yandex.Taxi, the taxi booking service of Russian search giant Yandex, announced its launch in the Georgian capital Tbilissi. The service, which involves 200 cars from 11 taxi parks, is available in Georgian, Russian and English languages.
Launched in 2011, Yandex.Taxi already operates in 30 cities of Russia as well as in Minsk (Belarus), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Yerevan (Armenia).
“In Armenia and Kazakhstan, we’re among the top apps by downloads in all categories in the App Store and Google Play, and our traction in [Armenia’s capital] Yerevan is even stronger than in some large Russian cities,” said Yandex.Taxi General Manager Tigran Khudaverdyan.
“We’re planning to expand to Ukraine, Estonia and Latvia in the short term,” he added.
Last year Yandex purchased Ros.Taxi, a software program that allows taxi businesses to take orders, coordinate and lead the work of drivers. Included within the Ros.Taxi brand is a mobile application called Taximeter, which determines the cost of a journey and provides drivers communication with dispatchers.
