Sports.ru is in the process of acquiring 90live.org, a Belorussian developer of mobile apps for football fans, reported Vedomosti earlier this month based on exchanges with the portal’s general manager Dmitry Navosha. The details of the transaction, which is not completed yet, have not been disclosed.
Founded in Minsk in 2013, 90live.org has developed more than 20 apps for such football clubs as Real Madrid and Barcelona. Most applications are offered in English, Spanish, Italian and other languages.
These applications have been downloaded more than 1 million times, including 700,000 times by users from the USA. Vedomosti reports.
The Belorussian company generates some $20,000 in revenues monthly, including advertising revenues, according to Navosha.
Sports.ru hopes to get advantage of the relatively high costs of international mobile ad inventory. Advertising rates may be 12 times higher in the US than on the Russian market.
Founded in 1998, Sports.ru is one of the leading Russian-language themed news portals. Its traffic neared 7 million users in February 2016, according to Google Analytics data cited by Vedomosti. The portal generated 172.7 million rubles in revenues last year (approximately $2.8 million), according to Russian company database SPARK-Interfax.
