Anews, a global news-reading app with a built-in behavioral advertising network, is about to launch its service in Brazil, the company’s press service told East-West Digital News. This Portuguese version is coming in addition to the existing ones in English, Russian, French, Ukrainian and Swedish languages.
According to Anews CEO Vyacheslav Masenkov, news aggregators now occupy about 20% of the media market in Brazil, as well as throughout the world.
“Their share is growing constantly, and we expect to take at least 30% of the news aggregator market in Brazil,” he stated.
“We are now focusing on Brazil because it’s a very socially-connected country. What’s more, there is a very high proportion of people reading the news regularly and actively sharing them on social networks,” Masenkov notes.
However the Russian company will compete with such a big player as Flipboard in the local scene, not to mention global competitors Feedly, Pulse and Google News.
The Anews platform provides each reader with a consolidated, personalized view of news content from news agencies, newspapers, magazines, blogs and social networks. On the B2B side, Anews allows news media companies to expand their reach, acquire new users for free and increase digital ad revenues.
Anews claims more than 3 million downloads since product launch in 2013. It has been permanently among the top 3 news apps in the Russian application stores of Apple and Google, and occasionally in Eastern Europe.
Incorporated in Delaware, the company has headquarters in Moscow and San Francisco. It late 2014 it attracted $2.7 million in venture capital.
