2GIS, a Russian developer of 3D maps with electronic directory guides for city inhabitants and travelers, is now available in Spanish for detailed city navigation in Santiago, the capital of Chile – the first South American site for the cartography company.
The project is downloadable in both desktop (Windows) and mobile (iOS and Android) versions. The 2GIS maps for Santiago – one of the continent’s largest cities, with a population of more than 5.4 million – show as many as 300,000 buildings. Location and reference information on an estimated 30,000 local services, shops and organizations is also featured.
2GIS (for Geo Information System) was launched in 1999 in Novisibirsk, a major Siberian city and research center. Starting in 2004 the company extended its coverage to a range of Russian cities, then to Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Italy.
The 2GIS guides cover more than 250 cities in these countries, with 22 million registered users worldwide.
In 2013 Mashable.com, a popular global technology and social media blog, included the Siberian developer in its list of Russia’s 20 “hottest startups.”
