J’son & Partners, a leading consultancy covering Russia’s telecom and IT markets, has released an insightful research about LTE perspectives in Russia and across the world.
In the medium-term perspective (5-6 years), the largest Russian mobile operators will have not only build a 4G network in accordance with the licensing requirements and their own investment plans, but also to find effective ways to monetize LTE networks, the consultancy predicts.
Russian operators will thus be able to prevent revenue loss due to increasing popularity of mobile OTT-services, increasing pressure from the regulator and the possible deterioration of the economic situation.
There were around 213 LTE commercial networks in 81 countries in September 2013, J’Son notes. In 2017, this number is expected to reach 400 LTE networks. The number of subscribers will increase from 100 million in May 2013 to 900 million in 2017.
