Last week, Russian search giant Yandex released the tri-lingual beta version of its Islands, search snippets aimed at improving search results and helping users find solutions to specific problems by delivering results in the form of interactive blocks.
According to Yandex, the new feature offers a “shortcut to users’ ultimate search goals,” making it possible to book tickets or track parcel post right on the search results page. The beta version is available to Russian, Ukrainian, and Turkish users.
Almost two months after the company announced the Islands concept, calling for website owners to fill its technological platform with their actual content, Yandex now features a new interface for computers, tablets, and smartphones that changes depending on the search query.
The Islands’ first interactive answers can accommodate any sort of information from texts to videos and pictures. Similar blocks are grouped for user convenience, while the navigation menu has been redesigned to display only the Yandex services relevant to a user’s current query.
Yandex is shooting for a substantial increase in the number of interactive answers but is also committed to “adding only those that are genuinely useful.”
Earlier this summer, the Internet company first rolled out the Islands on its Turkish site with an eye to gaining a stronger foothold on the promising Turkish search market.
