“Cut the Rope: Time Travel,” a new chapter in the legacy of the award-winning “Cut the Rope” game, has held the top position in Apple iTunes’ paid apps charts since its release on April 18.
The new adventure sequel has also staged a strong showing in the Russian Google Play store. As of April 24 it was the most downloaded app in the free game section and number seven among paid games.
“Cut the Rope: Time Travel” was developed by Zeptolab, a Russian mobile game publisher established in 2009 in Moscow but now based in the UK. It costs just over 30 rubles ($1) per copy for both iPhone and Android gadget users.
To develop and launch the sequel, Zeptolab says it has spent “around $1 million.” The developer now expects to make the game available to users in 125 countries and in “a few dozen” app stores besides iTunes and Google Play.
In a bid to create more buzz around the upcoming game, fast food giant Burger King, a Zeplolab partner, kicked off a six-week “Cut the Rope: Time Travel” promo campaign in March, delivering the game’s toy protagonist, Om Nom, and his “historical ancestors” in a reported 17 million kids’ meals.
Zeptolab CEO Mikhail Lyalin told PocketGamer.biz earlier this week that “aside from ‘Cut the Rope: Time Travel,’ ZeptoLab hopes to release three other games in 2013, two of which will be new IPs.”
The original “Cut the Rope” has been downloaded more than 250 million times since its launch by Zeptolab in October 2010.
