Rikor TV rolls out Android-based device to ‘smarten up’ television

Rikor TV, a Russian developer of interactive TV solutions and related customer-oriented software, announced last week its plans to bring its Smart TV-Box, an Android 4.1 powered media center, to market this spring.

Equipped with the media center, which uses Exynos 4412, a 1.6GHz four-kernel processor by Samsung, any flat-screen TV set turns into a ‘smart’ TV, claims Rikor’s CEO Mikhail Fastovets.

He believes that in a few years, the new device will be able to select content according to a user’s preferences and create individualized channels for each user, thus “personalizing viewing” and helping users “navigate within a wide variety of Smart TV applications.”

Drawing on its Android capabilities, the system enables a user to tap into a full assortment of Google Play items via Wi-Fi and lets users access searches for online libraries and torrent trackers. Controlling a ‘smart building’ with the Smart TV-Box is also an option, the developers say.

The product is expected to hit the market in an array of configurations, ranging in price between 3,500 rubles (about $115) and 5,000 rubles ($170).
