St. Petersburg university pays tribute to Steve Jobs

A monument in memory of Steve Jobs was unveiled earlier this month in the yard of the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO).

The monument, which is about the size of a man, represents an iPhone 4, and is equipped with an interactive touch screen that displays highlights of Jobs’ biography along with photos and videos of Apple’s famous co-founder.

The initial design included a sophisticated “solar QR code,” explained artist Gleb Tarasov, who created the piece, in an exchange with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. But due to the city’s cloudy weather, the feature works independently from daylight – the QR code is simply linked to a website dedicated to Jobs.
