Russia grants international investors preferential visa regime

Last week Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a draft bill supplementing and amending the country’s current visa legislation.

The new law grants preferential visa treatment to representatives of large international corporations investing in Russia and of companies participating in two key state-supported programs: Skolkovo, the giant tech hub under completion on the outskirts of Moscow, and the development of the Russian capital as an international financial center.

These representatives can now obtain visas from Russian embassies or consulates following requests from federal government bodies. They are eligible for a new visa category, the five-year business visa – a dramatic term upgrade from the one-year maximum that Russia’s current visa legislation prescribes for most categories of foreigners.
