KupiKupon launches discount search engine

KupiKupon, one of Russia’s leading daily deal sites, is launching ‘KupiKupon Poisk,’ a web interface that displays discounts, bonuses and other special offers that have been made available by third parties in a dozen Russian cities.

As much as $3 million has already been invested in the project, the company’s General Manager Komil Ruzaev revealed in an exchange with Russian business daily Kommersant.

Marketers can post their offers directly on the site through a personalized interface, in a way similar to placing contextual ads on search engines. KupiKupon receives a commission fee each time a customer coming from the site contacts the merchant or makes a purchase.

Ruzaev expects the site to generate $1.1 million in 2013 and no less than $127 million in 2016.

But experts quoted by Kommersant point out that while customers generally show interest in discounts, only a fraction of them actually redeem the coupons they get.
