Launched just one month ago, Yandex.Garderob – a special section of Yandex’s e-commerce marketplace that aggregates offers from online fashion retailers – claims it has reached a daily audience of 70,000 to 75,000 users.
Considering these figures a success, Yandex intends to launch similar aggregators for other product categories such as jewelry and other lifestyle-related items, the Yandex marketplace director Alexey Avdey revealed in an exchange with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The development of the fashion aggregator required major changes in the technical platform that supports Yandex marketplace, Yandex CEO told journalists rencently. But new aggregators can now be launched more easily.
Yandex Market is, by far, the biggest marketplace on the Russian e-commerce scene. It provides a means to choose products and trade offers from a wide selection of sites as well as a range of features including price comparison, consumer ratings and reviews, and a mobile application with a bar code reader.
Torg.mail.ru, a competing e-commerce marketplace owned by the Mail.ru Group – Yandex’s rival for leadership on the Russian Internet – has also launched an aggregator of fashion offers a few weeks ago. But with some of its functionalities yet to be deployed and a limited number of merchants enrolled, Torg.mail.ru has so far attracted less than 7% of the total audience of the marketplace, the group indicated in a press conference on Tuesday.
