Delivery Hero raises $49 million from Russian and Western funds

Delivery Hero, a Berlin-based online food ordering company operating in a dozen of countries, announced yesterday it has secured a capital injection of $49 million from Kite Ventures, a Moscow-based venture fund operating internationally, and Kreos Capital, a leading European provider of growth debt and equity investment for high-growth companies.

The round of funding has pushed Delivery Hero’s total raised capital to $98.4 million, making the 21-month-old online food delivery company one of the best financed European Internet start-ups in the last 12 months.

“The current round provides us sufficient capital to fuel our aggressive international growth plans,” co-CEO Fabian Siegel said.

Delivery Hero claims its companies have provided to date more than 32 million meals from the 22,000 restaurants across its global network, which operates in Germany, UK, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Mexico, South Korea, and Russia, where it operates under the Delivero.ru brand.

In the first quarter of 2012, orders increased by 84%, with an estimated annual marketplace revenue of more than €250 million ($307 million).

The company has more than 400 employees around the world, the majority working from its headquarters in Berlin.

Delivery Hero received financing at earlier stages from Ru-Net, Tengelmann Ventures, Kite Ventures, Holtzbrinck Ventures, Point Nine Capital and Team Europe.
