Russian search giant Yandex is developing a cloud service to store data from computers and mobile devices, Russian business daily Vedomosti reported on Monday.
The service, currently referred to by the working name ‘Yandex.Disk,’ will store and sync files of any type and format, from text documents, to video files and photos, as well as calendars and address books.
Each user will be able to store up to 10 Gb of data, Yandex spokesman Ochir Mandzhikov explained.
In contrast with such solutions as Rapidshare, file exchange and downloads will be restricted. The Yandex system could be more accurately compared to Apple’s iCloud, but with the notable difference that Yandex’s service will be offered free of charge, a company source told Vedomosti.
