Fourteen residents of the business incubator of Ingria, a major technopark in St. Peterburg, attracted a total of 378 million rubles, or approximately $12 million, in investments during 2011. The sum amounted to 3.7 times as much as the previous year’s total.
Among Ingria’s investors were Yandex, the Russian search giant, Headhunter, a leading Russian job search site, and Microsoft, as well as various business angels and state-owned financial organizations, including the St. Petersburg Pre Seed Stage Investment Fund.
In 2012, more than 20 residents of the incubator will aim to raise 1.18 billion rubles, or about $37.5 million, said Dmitry Stepkin, the director of the incubator.
Ingria has one of the most established incubators in Russia. Founded in 2008, it includes 70 resident companies employing 538 people in the fields of natural sciences, biotechnology and medicine, energy, material science, chemistry and nanotechnology as well as information technologies.
