The Russian mobile content market could reach as much as $1.8 billion this year, according to a report from consulting company J’son & Partners quoted by news agency RIA Novosti. The figures includes ringback tones and other audio content for $766 million, mobile applications for smartphones for $355 million – up 106% from 2010 – Java games for $292 million as well as video content for $255 million.
The number of downloads from online application retailers will reach 246 million, up from 76 million in 2010 and just 26 million in 2009.
For 2012, J’Son & Partners forecast strongest growth in the mobile app and video service segments, with 114% and 95% growth, respectively, stagnating sales of Java games at 1.5% growth and audio content growing by no more than 17%.
In 2013, the overall mobile content market could exceed $3 billion.
