Gazprom in talks to acquire German energy and telecom operator Envacom

Germany’s anti-monopoly authorities announced that Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T), a subsidiary of the Russian gas giant, requested their approval to be considered for an acquisition of Envacom.

A German solar and wind energy operator, Envacom also offers mobile and Internet access services to more than 500,000 customers.

If successful, this acquisition attempt would mark Gazprom’s first acquisition of an alternative energy operator in the European Union. However, the talks are still in the early stage and no agreements have been reached thus far, said Simon Garcia of GM&T’s International Communications Department.
