Cisco to assemble IPTV set-top box components in Tver

Cisco Russia General Manager Pavel Betsis announced last week that his company will start producing IPTV set-top boxes (STBs) as early as next month in an assembly plant belonging to Jabil Circuit, a US-based global provider of electronics manufacturing services.

The assembly How To Get Over A Breakup Make Him Want Ou Back plant is located in Tver, a city on the Volga River some 150 km northwest of Moscow.

Russian business daily Vedomosti also reported from unnamed sources that Cisco plans to supply its first client Vimpelcom – a leading Russian and international telecom group – with up to 200,000 STBs each quarter.

According to iKS-Consulting, Vimpelcom’s IPTV client base has doubled to 400,000 since March 31, 2011, while the overall number of Russian IPTV users grew by 88%.

Vimpelcom occupies 32% of the Russian IPTV market, ahead of MTS (16%) but far behind market leader Rostelecom (45%), reported J’son & Partners. By 2016, the market could reach or exceed $260 million, a tenfold increase from 2010, reported Telesputnik earlier this month.

In June, Cisco announced its first product to be manufactured in Russia: an innovative hardware VPN module that will be produced via a multi-level high-tech supply chain using Cisco’s Russian partners. The module enables Cisco clients to protect confidential information, personal data, financial transactions, and other data.
