Oborot.ru, Russia’s leading online resource and event organizer for e-commerce, announced yesterday the creation of the Electronic Commerce Association, which aims “to facilitate the development of online retail businesses and define the principles of civilized business.”
“The market is growing. If we do not set the rules ourselves, others will do it,” the association’s organizers stated.
The announcement was made at the E-commerce Russia & CIS – 2011 conference, a major industry event currently being held in Moscow. The association will be formed in mid-November.
Until now, no association specifically related to e-commerce has existed in Russia, although NAMO, the mail order and distance selling industry association founded in 2004, covers e-commerce issues to a limited extent.
Oborot.ru has estimated the Russian e-commerce market at $8 billion, with a 40% annual growth rate.
