Russia’s Mail.ru Group, which leads the Russian-speaking Internet in terms of traffic, plans to double the number of developers working on its own Internet search mechanism, Russian business daily RBС reported on Tuesday, based on information provided by Mail.ru Group. Mail.ru plans to increase its share of the Russian Internet search market in the future, the group’s spokesman added.
Search.Mail.ru currently serves only 6.6% of all Russian search traffic, lagging far behind Yandex and Google, according to LiveInternet.ru data.
Since early 2010, Mail.ru Group has been using the Google search engine for the majority of the search requests it serves. Some searches, however, are handled by Mail.ru’s in-house search technology.
