Irkutsk regional Vice President Viktor Nechayev made a series of announcement last week at the Baikal Economic Forum regarding the forthcoming development of innovative industries – including IT – in the region.
Among the projects under consideration is a local venture fund with the participation of state-owned fund of funds the Russian Venture Company. Other projects include a multifunctional data center with a 70 MW capacity and a technopark with financing from the Federal government and involvement of foreign partners.
The region will also apply for the creation of a regional nanocenter under the auspices of a program run by Rusnano, the state corporation dedicated to developing nanotechnologies in the country.
On a visit to the Irkustk State Technical University, Viktor Vekselberg, President of the Skolkovo Foundation, found that a number of the university’s ecological security, biomedical and cleantech projects could soon become residents of Skolkovo clusters.
Skolkovo is a Russian state sponsored innovation hub near completion near Moscow that has been a focal point among the initiatives to foster innovative industries in Russia.
