More than 120 Russian broadcasters and content distributors represented Russia at MIPTV, a key industry event for the European content market that took place in Cannes, France, from March 31 to April 4.
This year, the show has hosted more than 11,500 participants from 107 countries.
As in previous yeas, the majority of Russian participants at the annual trade show were primarily interested in buying foreign content.
Among the biggest deals announced in the Russian section of the show was between Riki Group, a St. Petersburg based content producer, and MTV Networks International (MTVNI). As MIPTV News reports, MTVNI acquired the television and digital media rights for the animated children’s serial Kikoriki from Riki Group.
Targeted at three to eight year olds, Kikoriki is well known as Smeshariki in Russia. MTVNI aims to distribute the program over Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific region.
Also of note at the show was the announcement of the launch of an international broadcasting project by REN TV, an affiliate of National Media Group. No date was set for the launch.
Founded in February 2008, National Media Group is one of the largest private media holdings in Russia, combining the assets of key segments in the Russian media market as Channel 5, Ren TV, newspaper Izvestia.
