Rostelecom to build fiber-optic line to Sakhalin Island

Rostelecom, Russia’s national telecommunications operator, has announced plans to build a fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) to Sakhalin Island in the Far East district.

The investment amount has yet to be disclosed. The 580-kilometer line is reportedly to be laid in Khabarovsk region from the village of Selikhino from Lazarev Cape near De-Kastri port.

The sea part of the line is to go on the bottom of the Nevelskoy Strait to Pogib Cape on the Sakhalin Island and is to be connected to the existing inside-zone fiber-optic line, the firm said. The construction of the FOCL is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
