Russian touch screen phone sales quadruple in 2010

According MForum Analytics, Russian sales of touch screen phones increased fourfold in one year, rising from 2.94 million devices sold in 2009 to 11.93 million in 2010. At the end of 2010, touch screen phones accounted for about 30% of all phones sold in Russia, but could reach as much as 50% or more by 2012, according to a sales prediction by a representative of Euroset, a leading mobile retail network.

The average price of a touch screen phone fell from $296 to $217 in 2010. With 46.7% of total sales, Samsung has become the number one selling phone in the touch screen segment while Nokia, the traditional leader on the Russian mobile phone market, took just 26.7% of the market share.

According to Svyaznoy, another leading retailer, Android-supported touch screen devices represented 9% of the sales in 2010 against just 2% in the previous year. In the touch screen smartphones segment, Symbian was still the market leader accounting for 60% of all sales in late 2010, Android – 20%, Bada – 9%, iOS – 7% and Windows Mobile a mere 3%, reported Euroset.
