Using GPON technology, Sibirtelecom connected 10 thousand subscribers to the internet in the Novosibirsk region. This passive optical networks project provides network access speeds of up to 1 Gb/s.
Sibirtelecom announced that the number of connected subscribers will be increased three-fold by the end of 2011.
With 34% of the total market, Sibirtelecom is the largest telecom operator in the Siberian federal district. In the regional market, they account for 80% of local communication services, 97% of inter-regional services, 65% of internet access and 21% of mobile communications, while servicing approximately 4.4 million land-line subscribers and 5.2 million mobile subscribers.
